Taken this morning on the Holm straights between the Fea and Cannigal roads. A seven month old male fox that had died as a result of a blunt trauma to the head according to Heather Ramsay the vet. Animal was well fed and otherwise in perfect condition suggesting it might have been kept as a pet by someone. It's being sent to the SAC lab in Thurso for tests to determine if it's really a wild fox. Without doubt the strangest thing I've ever found on the way to work.

Killed on the road at the other side of the Pentland ?. Thrown out here to confuse Orcadians ?? Just a thought !

My first instinct was to ask which side of the road the fox was found on. If on the west side, did someone from the sooth stop and throw it out of the boot on their way to Kirkwall? I'm inclined to agree with Ron, but maybe we just have the same cunning sense of humour.

Totally agree with Ron. I'm convinced it's a plant. The way it was lying with the brush protruding out onto the road was just too contrived.
