Low tide in Kirkwall Bay this afternoon. I don't remember seeing that massive lump of masonry presenting a hazard in the water before.

That "massive lump of masonry" must be a fairly recent deposit. I have seen many tides as low and even lower but I don't recall seeing that before.

Saw the dredger working there twa days ago.

The dredger dug it up on sunday morning and set it there for some reason.
When the dredger was working next to the big stone you could see the top of the digger bucket above the water.

that lump of masonry was picked up by the dredger on Sunday 15 May 2011.

When Meil's had a fish store on Ayre Road,where Fusion now is,i'm sure they had a small jetty where the lobsters in boxes etc,were taken ashore from the Basin,having been towed around by Jim Wylie.
In time and due to the big gales in the early 1950's it's just possible that this is a piece of that same jetty.
