Nellie was bought in a boat sale in Stromness about 1920 by Hugh Johnstone ("Orcadia" engineer). I bought her in 1967, turned her into a steamboat and added the wheelhouse.

The "Nellie" belonged to Jeck Bews from St.Catherines Place in the 50s. She had a Kelvin Poppet 12-14hp engine in her then. Jeck was a Millwright at Scarth's and Johnnie was an engineer at Scarth's. Added by Phil Brough.

Must be anither boat fae the ane that I spoke about. That ane wae towed in was a long narrow boat maybe 28 feet and no that long after the incedent I am relating she sank at the Scapa pier and was lifted full o water and broke her back. This would have been around 1970-71. it was a couple o sooth country men that were on her at the time I refer tae. It was said at the time it was the owld Melsetter Yacht. Does any body mind on? I dont think I dremt hid yea ken". I do mind it was the night we were hivan a fund raising night for the family o the men who were lost in the Sanday boat "Northern Isle".

Yes John Budge it is not the boat you were talking about. The Poseidon was sunk at Scapa Pier. From 1967 I have had happy times in Nellie with no problems.
