This is my Grandads (David Bews) Royal Artillery unit in Orkney. He enlisted in the Orkney Territorial Army in WW2. I think this was taken in the Scapa Flow area? Date estimated.

I think the guitarist is Jim Meason and the accordionist Tommy Groat. In the back row, starting fifth from the left, Tommy Drever, Johnny Wards, Jock Scott- all from Shapinsay.

Dave Bews is first left in front row. Could it be at Lyness? I don't know but somewhere in my brother's archives there are a lot of photographs taken out there.

I note there is a fiddle player next to the guitarist - so they had a little band. Heck, I would love a shot on that ornate guitar.

I think the picture would have been taken at Stanger Head, Flotta. My Dad, Lin Shearer, also in this Coast Def. Regiment though not in this pic.

My father Fred Provins was here from 1940-1942 having survived Dunkirk. No pictures of him though at this time.
