Comments:
The year is 1958. The only year the AFS won the Airport Efficiency Competition. We each received a £1.00 premium bond for our efforts.I am still waiting for my winnings as I guess as are the rest of the team. The fire appliances were a Thorneycroft Foam and water tender. The Zodiac rubber dinghy was introduced to allow us to attempt inshore rescues should an a/c land in the sea. During training with the Zodiac dinghy in Inganess Bay. Alistair Harrold managed to knock out one of my front teeth, with the boat hook. I still have the false tooth to remind me of these exciting days!! The second person from the left is Jack Harcus. Leslie Hibbert only joined after I had moved onto greater things!!Jimmy Raeburn and I spent many hours underneath the fire appliances cleaning the chassis' which was a strong reason for us winning the competition.

Second one in from the left is Jack Harcus. He tells me the year was 1958 and they won the Efficiency Award that year.

I think you will find the far appliance at the Brooklands museum in Surrey, sitting along side a Vickers Vicount (India Mike).
