The Willows

Who said there are no trees in Orkney? Here we have a densely forested urban area, with the Willow Burn ambling through it, on its covert way to the Peedie Sea under the lanes of Kirkwall.

Comments:
The Willows was where you went to the swings (if you could get there first in school lunchbreak) and also where differences of opinion (okay, fights!) were settled between school pupils on occasion.

Is that the Chippy sign to the left, above and behind the red motor? [Yes- Steven]

Many a summer night spent trying to jump over the burn on your bike followed by a double pattie supper. "That was the life." Willows patties were the best in the world.

Anyone who has fond memories of the Willows needs to take a walk up and see what has been done over the last weeks. It's very sad.

This part of the Willows has been ruined over the past few weeks. There is very little left of the gentle slope that was there. Go and take a look everyone who has fond memories of the Willows

I would be interested to see this view again as it is now. I've checked out the "in progress" pics but couldn't see one from this angle. Would love to check it out in person but circumstances won't permit.... again!
