A picture taken before the second world war with WHB Sutherlands on the left as it was originally. I was born and grew up across the street. Will always remember the erect figure of Willie Sutherland coming and going on his faithful push bike.

My father, Wilbert Thomson, owned the shop next to WHB Sutherland's (going towards Broad Street) in the 1950's, prior to moving to the shop at 'The Brig' (now the Frozen Food Centre.) Previous owners were George & Mary Tullock, who also owned the bakery at the Willows, prior to Billy Wilson - now Rendall's Bakery & shop. Prior to George & Mary Tullock, Zena Bain was the owner.

Edwin, would I be right in thinking that WHB Sutherland's was run by a daughter of Mr Sutherland in the mid to late 1950's and that she married a Mr Simpson who was the area manager of the Co-op (SCWS) at that time ?

Rob, Yes his daughter Janet would have run the shop in the 50's. Cannot confirm who she married, no doubt the Coop manager Mr Simpson would be correct. Janet was a keen golfer.
