Looking over the Biology pond.

That wooden box was used to house glass lead-acid batteries from a telephone exchange that myself, Roy Flett and John Swanney had retrieved for a renewables project under the supervision of Angus Fraser, back in 1982/83. After we left school the batteries were connected up and charged from a Wincharger wind turbine that we'd installed on the flat roof of the school, and used to power DC lighting in the science classroom next door (Mr Anderson's). This was abandoned after a fire, I believe.

Picture taken in KGS in January 2014 just before the school was handed over for demolition, demolition now in full effect I notice, with Home Economics among the first to be knocked down.

Eh, what caused the fire or is that a secret only to be released under the 50 year rule.

A friend and I (or 'myself and a friend' if you must) caused a fire in Stromness Academy while engaged in a foolhardy attempt to make fireworks. Fortunately we were able to extinguish the burning floorboards before a conflagration occurred (and before we were caught red-handed). It happened in a small store-room, tucked away in a corner, or we'd probably never have got away with it. And having said that, I think I'll join the ranks of the anonymous with this one, in the probably forlorn hope of getting away with it indefinitely.
