1963 - Mabel Gillespie née Grieve, Mervyn and Beryl Gillespie.
The County Thames Trader in the background and the 1949 A40 Devon both shining, dad used mansion floor polish on both, no fancy car stuff back then. We were heading to the kirk, me in the coat that my granny bought for Margaret and Eric Heddle's kirking the Sunday after their wedding. By the state of my brothers breeks he was getting out of going!

Hello Beryl, seeing the old Thames trader reminds me of the of the time my father worked with the "old county council". He used to be on a brown painted Thames Trader that used to deliver tar barrels to the men doing road surface dressing in 1960/62?. I just wondered if it was the same lorry. On the doors was written "Orkney County Council No 3.I often wondered what happened to that lorry.

There were 2 Thames Traders purchased by the then Orkney County Council. Both were painted Imperial Brown and were supplied 50 years ago this month. Registration numbers BS6546 and BS6547.

Interesting to know that it was 50 years ago this month.
Think it must have been the other lorry Laurence because it was a new lorry in Longhope and then it ended up at Groat's as you can read here: picture #9236
Another picture #2130 but can’t see the number.
I mind seeing a photo of it in a sorry state after Plums mishap but as usual dad just had a laugh about it.
