Left to right is Johnny Cload then Jock Stout and my dad David Gillespie driving the lorry. This photo was taken going down past Isaac Moar's house in the North end of Hoy. Hard work without a gritter!
The date is an estimate.

Comments:
Photo was taken by Isaac Moar him self, as I have an old roll of film and this picture is on it, along with other winter Hoy scenes.I will try and add them all once I get the film developed.

I would thing Johnny Cload and Davina (Dolly) Wilson née Gillespie must be the oldest folk on the island.

Johnny was a soldier during the war and one of the places was the battle of Monte Cassino. Jock served in the war as well, dad was called up for National Sevice from 1946 to 1948. All three saw a lot of the world through no wish of their own and then came home to Orkney a place that's hard to beat.

I remember some one telling me when Johnny was awarded the MBE or BEM, he was asked to attend a ceremony south to collect his medal, Jhonny said, the last time I left the island I got shot at, so am no gan again, I think that's right, John Budge wid bound tae ken, in fact I think he might have told me.
