LIfe-boat badges

Picture taken today.
These badges (or brooches)were worn by a relative 60-odd years ago. No doubt they have modern equivalents?

Comments:
An article in the Summer 2013 issue of 'Compass', the RNLI's Scottish newsletter, says the Orkney Mainland Ladies' Lifeboat Guild, predecessor of the current Orkney Mainland Lifeboat branch, was formed in April 1953. (Another institution celebrating its 60th birthday.)
I wonder, do these badges date from then? Some OIL viewer's bound to know something about them.
(Full marks for punctilious punctuation - the apostrophe after LADIES.)
