My maternal grandfather David H Allan from Burray was a cooper in Stronsay in the early 1900s. He married a Stronsay lass (Barbara Liddle). They left Stronsay when he joined the Orkney Police Force.

Yes David, I know that David and Barbara had twin daughters born in the Police Station, Stronsay in 1917, so he must have been a Stronsay Policeman at that time.

My sister Heather has shown me a copy of the registration of death for the twins who were born 16/06/1917 and who died 4/5 days later. Yes they are recorded as being born in the police station in Stronsay however my grandfather David Heddle Allan is shown on the certificate as having his occupation as a Cooper. The Doctor is shown as Dr Robert Rosie and "the informant" as Williamina Caithness, Nurse, Village, Stronsay.
