Photo taken from banks on the Cannigal side of the oil tanks, date is a guess 1950. The tug Salveda and a dredger at Scapa Pier. Added by Phil Brough.

Could the dredger perhaps be Metal Industries Floating crane, carrying a lump of scrap. As kids we used to watch this crane operating in Holm Sound, In the early 50s.

Yes, I think you are right Gordie. I have another photo of the Salveda and the floating crane with the same lump of scrap onboard, coming in near the end of the pier. Added by Phil Brough.

Yes Metal Industries, Floating Crane, I mind her clearing big lumps o scrap between the Golden Wharf and the West Pier, It was stuff from when they beached the battle ships there before towing them away.
