Scanned from a Daguerrotype dated 1 January 1847 probably taken in Penang. Captain Thomas Douglas Scott with his wife Mary Ann, daughters Mary Ann and Jannet and son Thomas John, my grandfather, born 1845 in Penang. Both girls born at sea. Capt. Scott was a master mariner and East India Trader, bought Crantit House, Crantit Farm and Nether Scapa in 1854 but had a clipper ship "LAJU" built in Dundee and returned to the East in 1869 for another seven years trading and shipping tea and silk from China to London. Capt Scott was born in Cross, Sanday in 1815. Died 1884 and buried in St Magnus kirkyard.
