Large Version View Large Version
Picture added on 20 May 2009
Comments:
The bike seat seen here is most likly a Middlemore seat. This type of saddle was the design of the company owned by Thomas Middlemore who was also the owner of the Melsetter estate on Hoy.
Thomas and Theadosia owned a large engineering company in the midlands of England and it was said this type of spring seat was one of the products made by their works.

My great great grandparents were a Donald and Ann Peace also (nee Stevenson). My great grandmother was a Margaret Elizabeth Peace who was married to a John Reid. John Reid was killed in Leith Docks and Margaret died of cancer when she was 52. My grandmother was Betsy Ann Reid (known as Betty (married name Taylor). I would love for any relatives to get in touch. Unfortunatley my gran died a couple of years ago but her sister, Moira is still alive and well. Please contact Lynn at [email protected].
