Remember the pylons at Netherbutton? I can, but I can't remember the year when the black and white 425 line transmissions stopped and the pylons were taken down.
I'm afraid I couldn't resist adding this to the Aerial Views gallery.

'Photo of WW2 Aerial Towers at Netherbutton, taken in 1960 after right hand tower had TV aerials added. The smaller wooden towers had already been dismantled. Rolleiflex 2.8D, FP4. Exposure data not recorded.'

In 1986 the new Keelylang station made Netherbutton redundant and the masts were sold for scrap.

I remember the smaller masts - and what the storm of February 1952 did to them!! We lived at Northfield at the time.

405 line TV was turned off across the UK by Febuary 1985.

Similer pylons here on Waas"but they had big Tees" across the top o them,there were four big anes and four smaller anes. Bill Sinclair fae Kirkwall bought them and took them away.
