barge at hatston

This is the same barge that Sandy refers to I think. This was taken July 2004.

Comments:
I'm sure this barge was there when I went to work at Hatston in 1984. It never saw a lick o' paint. See also picture #11502

I wonder if thats the barge that was for sale earlier this year, along with 2 steel workboats, one of them was on this site recently aground in the marina.
The barge was lying in Oban according to the sale advert, looked similar to your pic. I expect somebody can confirm if my thoughts on this are right or wrong.

It seems to have always been there except it used to be at the other side o the slip back in the 80s. I remember it when we used to wash salmon nets on the slipway in the early 1980s.

It came to Orkney to cart bottoming from Tingwall for building the Rousay Egilsay and Wyre slips in the mid 80s

Think the last job it did was carry rock armour for the cheese factory outfall at the Hatston pier. There's lots of them about, often used for feed barges on fish farms. Should be two in lyness as well, ex ammunition barges.

I think the back end has fallen out of it now.

It's being cut out. Hope the whole thing is removed soon.
