The Art Young

The Art Young "on and off" Swona! In relation to picture #10607 and picture #10548. I guess the tugboats will be the Metinda and the Salveda.

Comments:
Barbara, these are better pictures than mine. She actually went ashore on the Swilkie Point, Stroma on 28th August 1947. She was towed off and taken to Longhope by the three Metal Industries tugs "Bustler", "Metinda Two" and
"Metinda3". Herbert Sutherland of Burray was master of the "Metinda2". I think the big tug on the right of your picture will be the "Bustler" and the smaller one to the left, one of the "Metindas". The "Art Young" was on a voyage in ballast, from Malmo to Baltimore.

W. Bremner and David Sinclair in Wrecks of the Pentland Firth give the date of the Art Young grounding as 12 June 1945.
It appears to have a gun mounting on the stern so could be 1945.
