I've estimated the date as the ship was in service from 1930-1960 (see http://www.simplonpc.co.uk/UnionCastle4.html#anchor68151 for more pictures).

I travelled on the old winchester castle in March 1958 from southampton to cape town on my way to mauritius. a gale through the bay of biscay left me seasick all the way to madiera. she was still on the cape mail run at that time.
