Looking down Mounthoolie Lane as it is these days, from Albert Street. This lane and Laing Street formerly constituted the Lang Gutter, which extended down as far as where the Albert Hotel is, meeting the lane that came down from the Bridge following the line of the pavement that goes along the back of Mackay's these days. It was called The Hempow.

Used to squeeze a Morris J2 down this lane a few years ago. Even in these days I don't think the polis encouraged it!
