I mind giving her 10 shillings to have my palm read which was a good bit out of my wages then.

Ernest Marwick was interviewing my gran for the local radio. He was asking her about her gift of reading palms and telling about the past present and future

I am surprised Steven that you didn't know about Madam Abby.
She appeared every "MARKET TIME" which was usually in early August.
Latterly the starting date in Kirkwall was County Show day, after having been at the Dounby Show before that.
This was, in my early days, held in the Crafty Car park, long before it was re-located to the Picky Road site.
I have just realised that I must be getting old.!!!

I mind hivan me palm read by Madam Abby (many, many moons ago at Stromness Shopping Week) and I am amazed to this day aboot the accuracy of her 'prediction' or reading which kind o' puzzled her and me at the time! I am aboot to retire (for the second time) and I wis reflecting about this jist the other day!
