Woolworths, pelmet source

After extensive investigation I believe I have found the source of Shearer's pelmets as featured in picture #1478 and picture #1481.
In this photo of Kirkwall's new chain store the pelmets can be clearly seen top left hand side.

Photo courtesy James W Sinclair ....I hope.

The handsome fella on the left is the new Woolworths manager, showing customers and staff some of the latest products on offer.
Most excellent, Fraser Devine, take note! :-)

If I remember correctly his name was Mr Webb and I think that is his wife - front second from right.

Mr Walker was the manager's name
I think the couple on the right are Dorothy Scott and her father

At the top left of the ventilator cowl on the ceiling was one of a number of Emergency lights which I was told (as an inquisitive wee boy) were gas powered.

Those traditional Gas-Operated Emergency Lights, along with the Pink and Grey Checked pattern flooring brings back memories of Woolies in bygone days - where everything was once 3d or 6d!

Certainly were gas lights - I was there when they were installed.
