I found this unused postcard on the net. I think that is the Otter Bank leaving the basin. I wonder who the 2/3 people are on board. The man at the right looks very much like my dad - Billy Jolly (coal) - but it's hard to tell. The old cars give a date to the picture. Can't make out the name of the boat at the left.
[Wisbech? - Steven]

Correct Steven, it is the Wisbech, which was owned by Bremner and Company of Stromness. It was one of the old coasters which probably carried coal to Orkney for Billy Jolly.
Wisbech was disposed of in 1953 and broken up in 1960 according to my information, so this picture could have been taken late 1940's or early 1950's

Nice one Barbara ! My cousin, the late Captain Eric Brown (see Sandy Windwick's picture #3373) began his sea going career on Bremner & Company's 'Wisbech'. He went on to become one of The Orkney Steam Navigations Co's youngest Captains. The motor boat heading out towards the entrance is Russell Croy's 'Duncan built' "Sula" and it is still to the fore - now owned by Brian Pottinger.

If this picture was taken during the fifties it certainly won't be the Otterbank which was only in service during the 1960's - about 1963 - 1968
