Albert Street flooded in 1909

The scene on this postcard was photographed on 24 September 1909 and the card was franked in Kirkwall on 12 October 1909. Are present day similar events the results of global warming or merely history repeating itself?

Comments:
Wondering what the sign above A M Morgan's door on the right was - I could just make out "SW" - I looked up their advert in Peace's Almanac and found they were agent for Swift Cycles.

Interesting to note the Dundee Equitable in what will be Gorn Sport nowadays, not that far from DE Shoes current premises.

I thought it was just Kirkwall trying to grab the title of Venice of the North from Stromness.
