The western half of Papdale East is shown in this picture taken by Andy Wylie, with Meadowbank shiny and new, and Hordaland still a figment of the planner's imagination. No link road (The Meadows) in those days.
I was once told that before the council extended Bignold Park and extended the link road to the Deerness Road they looked into compulsorily purchasing the necessary land, only to discover that the old Town Council or County Council had already done it in the 1940s as part of a plan for a Kirkwall Ring Road!
