A poor picture of the illuminated sign on the Tower Showrooms when W.R.Tullock had their car showroom and sales dept. in the building.

Pity we can't see the model of Ford, could it be one of the beautiful Ford Consuls that did about 20 miles to the gallon? Great fun to drive with the column change and double de-clutching!

Nice to see a colour picture of the neon signs "Tullock for Ford"(these were suspected as the cause of the fire which later damaged the showroom). The car in the picture looks like a Mk2 Consul and if it is so, then it would be a second hand one. The 3 speed synchromesh gearbox operated from the steering column on the Consul was known affectionately as "three on the tree".
We sold the last new Consul Mk2 on 1st Feb 1962. They were replaced by Zephyr 4's in May '62. The Tower Showroom opened for business in August 1962.It featured the first car turntable in Orkney and the first car sold from it was a Ford Classic Deluxe in Monaco Red registered to Mr Francis Cusiter with the registration number BS6868 (that would be worth a bob or two today).
