Fred, I am nearly certain that the gentleman standing next to Davie Laughton, second from the right standing, is none other than James Cooper, who in later years was instructor of piping to the 1st Kirkwall Coy.Boys Brigade.

I agree (see my earlier post). By the time I started piping in the 1st Kirkwall, Arnold Calder was instructing but I remember James Cooper well.

Yes, Brian, it looks like the Gilbertson Park in Lerwick (I had a look today as I walked past). In fact I think you can see that building in picture #2816.
