Cathedral Octocentenary, 1937

Peter writes:
'This, the first of three pictures, is part of the octocentenary celebrations for St Magnus Cathedral.

People from all over Orkney and even further afield, took part. This took place in Brandyqouy Park, the year being 1937 as I remember.'

Comments:
See my comments on picture #290. I have a copy of the complete cast list for this Pageant. Hard to work out exactly what is happening here. It might be Scene 2, if so the principal character at the front would be Earl Thorfinn played by A Guthrie. Alternatively it could be Scene 7, and it would be Earl Rognvald played by Karl Holter. If anyone could tell me if I am right I could post the names of everyone else in those scenes, but there are about 60 men named in each.

Found same photo in John Mooney's Octocentenary booklet published 1938. It is captioned Scene VI 'Earl Rognvald and his men return to Norway after defeat in Shetland'
