A fine photograph of a group of soldiers from the 9th Battalion (Glasgow Highlanders) Highland Light Infantry. The soldier seated third from the left is Company Sergeant Major Magnus Norquay from South Ronaldsay. The photograph must be from around 1900+ as he wears the rank of Colour Sergeant which was the year he was promoted to that rank. Unfortunately, CSM Norquay was killed in action on 16th May 1915 at the age of 45 years. He was highly regarded by all officers, sergeants and men of the regiment.
