Long service recognised

Picture courtesy of Aberdeen Journals Ltd May 1978.
The name on the certificate is hard to make out with a magnifying glass on the original photo but appears to be Andrew Christie. The rest of the citation reads: for long and approved service of 31 years with Messrs C. Hourston & Sons on North Mains of Barra Farm, Oldmeldrum, Aberdeenshire.

The main interest for Orkney folk will be in the representatives and family members of 'C. Hourston' seen in the picture. First left is Charlie Hourston jnr, 3rd is Davy Hourston, 4th Mina Hourston, 6th Osla Hourston, 7th (just one eye showing) Betty (Hourston) Firth, and 9th is Agnes Hourston (Charlie's wife).
The Hourston family moved from Beaquoy farm, near Dounby, to Aberdeenshire in the late 1940s; Mr Christie must have been with them from the start of their time at North Mains.
