MV Eastern Prince

Continuing the theme of picture #27104, here's my latest attempt to 'get it right' (29 Apr 2013). Comments, suggestions and advice would be very gratefully received before it's too late to make changes on the model. For example, the forestay on mast No1 was originally fixed to the stem-post, or very near to it, but that would interfere with the pedestal-mounted bow gun. So, without any photographic or other evidence to go on, I moved it aft quite a bit. Maybe someone with better knowledge than mine could say whether that would have been likely in reality. Also, there's a dark horizontal stripe or band under the windows on the forward superstructure which is a puzzle. It's present in some photos, absent in others. What can it be?

Comments:
picture #27588 shows the completed model with the above profile for comparison. (The plan view above turned out to be quite wide of the mark and was discarded.) The 'dark horizontal stripe' was a stowed gangway, and appears as such on the model.

Can anyone give me information about MV Eastern Prince, especially names of crew. I have a handwritten record of 1929 1931 voyages. Thank you

All I know about the crew Theda is my uncle Charles S Smith was her captain 1941-48.
Her 'vital statistics' can be easily obtained from the internet. The 1921 voyages you have a record of would have been among her first; she was launched that year.

thanks Ian, yes, the notebook which I found has a paragraph about her launching in June 1929. I was thrilled to find it and would love to find out if my uncle Captain William Dedwith or my grandfather hugh Williams might have been in the crew. Where would I look for information on the internet? I am not very familiar with using the internet!!!

Could be a case of the blind leading the blind, Theda, but I would simply Google MS Eastern Prince and follow up any and every likely looking line of inquiry, perhaps refining the search by adding 'crew members', 'ship's company' etc.
I was looking for details of her structure, armament etc, but even so I came across all sorts of other material, and on the basis of what I saw I wouldn't be overly optimistic about your chances of success. But don't let that put you off! A computer crash robbed me of my email correspondence with various sources, archives etc, and my memory is bad, but I think Southampton City Archives were helpful. They hold a lot of Furness Prince Line material. Try emailing: [email protected]
Good luck!
