July 1992 - Well kent face Walter Ross at his house in Kirkwall. Hugh Simpson of Upper Seatter along a visit when he had a good win on the Australian Lottery so took his Australian wife to Scotland for the first time.

Just the face o' her right enough John and a bit like Vic Baikie as well. Hughie is about 84 now. Dad and him set off to the Army by train down to England somewhere and on the way each depended on the other to get up on time but after a few beers as would happen they both slept in. Thought they would be in big trouble being absent without leave but came some story about North of Scotland trains being slow and it worked. Whenever we took mum and dad to Inverness he would say as we were going along the coast in Sutherland "My the trains are still none faster in the North" and tell the story about him and Hughie.

I remember Maria Simpson only slightly but agree there is a strong family likeness with her son. My dad (Hugh's 2nd cousin) did enjoy his model yachting.
