Comments:
Never mind a reaper like this ane at the Burnhoose bit I do mind Grandad repairing a sheafing board and a rake like the one in the photo long after there were binders. This was typical o him he even made a board for his mortal remains to be layed out on! talk about being ready for anything.
Interesting photo Jane. The feature of the Simpson high cheek bone,s can be clearly seen on James, I don't mind him but knew his son Jimmy who had the same feature clearly seen in your photograph.

The bairn would likely have been their oldest grandbairn Kathy Simpson born 1926. Another grandbairn Beatrice born in 1952 can be seen in picture # 24267

Thanks for the probable grandchild's name. Named after her grandmother perhaps? In one census (1901 I think) Kate, and not her husband James, was listed as the head of the house. Quite unusual in those times. A strong woman?

It was her parents house before her so she wasn't going to let him be the head of it. Haha

Did your grandfather live in Leith Andrew? I'm fairly sure my father (Walter Ross) visited him during WW2. Annabella and my granny corresponded for years. Kate (née Ross) was my father's great aunt; your grandfather and my grandfather, John, were first cousins.
