This photo was taken in Northern Ontario, 1941ish, His father was Gilbert Spence from Orkney,born 1833ish we believe and he ended up on Manitoulin Island Ontario, his wife was Elizabeth(May)Spence,we can only assume that his father was Gilbert Spence or John Spence as well born in Orkney around 1801, we have more info weather its right or not? Any one might have information would be a great gift.Cheers

There are two Gilbert Spences in the 1841 census for Birsay, Orkney. One aged 9, father Gilbert, and one aged 8, father John. The fathers were a joiner and farmer, respectively.

This is very interesting I believe my great grandfather was a Gilbert Spence Postmaster for the Hudson Bay Company in Northern Ontario
