I believe this will be the outing that Paul refers to in his comment to picture #2544. This is a Tom Kent picture taken on 23rd June 1914.

Thanks to Steven for e-mailing me a higher-resolution version of this from which I've managed to pick out a few prominent Kirkwall figures of the time. Sitting right in the middle of the picture with a white beard and clerical collar is the Rev John Rutherford, Minister of the First Charge of St Magnus Cathedral from 1884 to 1919. Immediately on front of him and slightly to our left is J Groundwater, then (working to our right) T P Low, Solicitor, and W B Baikie, Provost of Kirkwall 1913-19. Three further along, with the sash off his shoulder, is James Begg, Procurator Fiscal. Standing behind him is R G Harrold, whose watchmaker's shop was where the Pomona Cafe is now, and two along to the left from him is John Sclater the draper, who can also be seen in some of the motorbike pictures already posted.
