Stronsay expat Jim Reid

A newspaper cutting that I got from a friend recently. We used to visit Jim and Annabelle who lived in Mission BC. He left Stronsay with his parents, a schoolboy at that time when they emigrated to Aanada. The year was 1929 i was told. Jim and Annabelle are no longer with us but their family are in the Abbottsford and Fraser Valley area of BC. The date on the newspaper cutting is 1992.

Comments:
I was very pleased to see a photo of James Reid. In 1998 he wrote a letter to the Orcadian about his young days in Stronsay. I had started researching my grandfather, James William Peace in Canada and knew he had also lived in Mission, BC. I wrote to Jim to ask if he had come across my grandfather as he had Stronsay connections but no he had never met him. However within about a week I received a bundle of photos of my grandfather's grave in Hastic Cemetery in Mission. Now I can put a face to the name. Thank you.

I too contacted James Reid after that letter in the Orcadian as my dad, George Tait, was born in Stronsay, his mother was a Drever. Mr Reid was a most interesting man to hear from with a great memory and I still treasure the letters he wrote. My thanks too for the picture, it is great to see.

I have been reading the comments about James William Peace in Canada.I have been trying to trace the family of Walter Dennison Peace, born 8th Feb.1865 in Sanday, Orkney, He emigrated to Canada, but unfortunately I dont know where. Perhaps someone may know of him?

On the 1891 census for Canada, there is a Walter Peace born Orkney with wife Florence Georgina Bradbury in Walpole, Haldimand, Ontario. He arrived there in 1884, on the 1911 census he is in Woodhouse, Norfolk, Ontario with his wife and family.
