Old Man of Hoy Climb 1967
These photos follow on from the ones Beryl recently posted. She was obviously better off than me in 1967 because I could only afford black and white film in my camera!!
The photos show some of the vehicles, used to haul equipment over the hill to the Old Man, waiting to leave the island. Compared to today's tractors, they are not very big, but back then they were pretty impressive.
All this activity is, of course, immortalised in Billy Budge's "Old Man of Hoy" song.

Hello Ann - at the Hoy Kirk we are having an Old Man of Hoy exhibition and gathering material for an on-line archive. It would be great to have a copy of these for the digital archive if that was possible?

I have a recording of Billy Budge's "Climbing of the Old Man of Hoy" but can't make out all of the lyrics. Does anyone know where I can get a copy?

The tractors were owned by a firm from Biggar in Lanarkshire and I believe they were constructed by themselves as no such machines were available at that time as standard tractors as they are today.
The firm still is on the go, I believe they are called Cuthbertsons of Biggar.
Such tractors were used in forestry working.
