Robert Rendall was the owner of George Rendall and Co, Draper,The Brig, 1Albert Street. I worked as a message boy there for 5 years,1950-1955. Robert was very deaf but was very good at lip reading. He travelled extensively every year to different countries in Europe. One of his favourites was Austria and the Jungfrau. Robert had a very good General Manager in John Laughton, they sold all house furnishings and prams of all sizes. Tthey had a large staff and were very busy. Added by Phil Brough.

I seem to recall that the Jungfrau is in Switzerland and very bonny it is too.

I should have said two favourite places!. Robert gave me a Travel Diary made into a book form with a lot of sketches drawn in it of the Jungfrau in Switzerland in particular. Added by Phil Brough.

Absolutely correct Peter and the rail journey to the top is really spectacular, straight through the Eiger.

Having shown this photo to my mother, May Rendall b. Kirkwall 1927- parents William (brother to poet Robert) and Maisie Rendall. She says that directly behind Uncle Robert is her grandmother, Barbara Garrioch Rendall. She says that she had a lot of fun with her, so a pity she was caught looking serious! My mother has loved seeing this photo. Thank you
