Lead flashing on Stromness Academy roof just before it was scrapped during renovations in 2002. The lower section, on the left, is densely populated with pupils' names and initials; the top secton on the right has very few. They all date from the 1940s and 50s.

The topmost initials, BL on the right, are those of Barbara Learmonth. I was sure mine, IH, a few inches lower, would be the highest ever achieved - then the very next day I found I'd been leapfrogged, and by a GIRL. Oh, the shame!
