GPO Hostel Outing - 1949

This is a photo that belonged to my Uncle Gordon who in the late 40s worked in the Kirkwall PO. He stayed at the GPO Hostel in Old Scapa Road.

The (large) lady at the extreme left, front is Miss Walker who was the Matron of the Hostel. The gentleman holding his coat over his arm is Jimmy Innes who worked on the telephone exchange. I am assuming this was an outing of some sort and because my uncle isn't in the photo I think he took the picture. The driver would be the man in the peaked cap?
Can anyone add any names for me, please. I'd love to have more.

I certainly know Jimmy from this photo and the man with the peaked cap is the one who gave me the clue as to the location.
It would look like Skara Brae for this man was custodian there at this particular time, and I'm sure this was the uniform he wore.

Thanks, Peter. Yes, of course the man on the right would be the custodian. Just didn't think about that.

This photo brought back many happy memories. I, as a resident at that time in Old Scapa Road, together with the late John Gray, regularly frequented "the hostel" to play table tennis, darts, etc. We got to know most of the residents & staff well, and Miss Walker in particular was always very kind to us. She had a small, severely crippled companion called, "Effie". Many of the GPO residents were in transit and faces now don't mean a lot to me. However, I'm sure the man 3rd from the left at the back was called Sandy Fenton and the lady standing next to Miss Walker was Mrs Eccles, mother of the late Gerald. Jimmy Innes stayed at the hostel for many years.
