This must date from around 1908. Photographer unknown. The girl top left is my Auntie Betty (or Lizzie) Smith, so presumably the setting is somewhere in Stromness. I have no idea who the others are.
The bikes' brake-levers are rear-pivoted; they must actuate the brake operating rods by a mechanism inside the hollow handlebars as there's no sign of any external mechanism. The saddles look surprisingly modern.
A nice picture, if slightly self-consciously posed.

Great photie. I s'pose they would have had to hold that pose quite a while in those days, before the photographer was ready to ''snap away'', hence the self conscious poses.
