Ben Barvis

The wreck of the Ben Barvis as it is today (2009). Anyone know anything about it like when it was wrecked and how it ended up so far out of the water? Any information welcome.

Comments:
the Aberdeen trawler ‘Ben Barvas’ Went aground on the Pentland Skerries on Jan 3rd 1964. The rescue took 6 hours to complete in very heavy seas creating heavy surf breaking on the skerries. All but 5 of the crew were rescued by breeches-buoy, as the lifeboat couldnt get alongside the trawler. Another 5 men were removed earlier by another trawler ‘Ben Screel’.
The Silver Second-Service Clasp awarded to Coxswain Dan Kirkpatrick for the rescue of nine of the crew of the 'Ben Barvas'.

I look after 1 of the trawlermen who was on the boat and rescued. He was 20 at the time, he has great stories about the boat and the rescue. His dad was skipper of the boat but by no means did it mean he got it easy!! Haha
