Lyness Sports Day

This is a photo from my mum and dad's collection taken with the Polaroid instant camera that was all the go back then. Not certain about the date but seems to be a bonny baby competition at the Lyness Social Club. Not a very clear photo so maybe I am wrong with some of the bairns names. Can you tell us a bit more Mabel?
Doreen Swanson, Sheila and Ella Norquoy, Flora and Teresa Gillespie, Martin, Mabel and Karin Besant, June and Susan Groat.

Comments:
This was the celebrations for the Queen's Silver Jubilee. I also have some photos of this day. As well as the baby show, there was sports and tug o' war. The babies in this photo are just a few of those on parade. There was a fair line up, and a bonny bunch there were. I think the mother on the left is Margaret Johnston.

Better late than never! 9 years plus have gone by since the publishing of this picture. Yes, the Queen's Silver Jubilee Celebrations as the dates fit. Hoy had a big day of celebrations with lots going on - sports, fancy dress football, bonfire up Wea Fea and a dance in the YM to name just some of the events. The people in the picture are: Margaret Johnston and likely Pat with her, Sheila Norquoy with Margaret, Flora Gillespie with Teresa, Martin Besant, Mabel Besant with Karin and June Groat with Susan. All lined up for the bonny baby competition with an awful lot more. I've a funny feeling Alex Collop was one of the winners.
