This photo of the old lady is Margaret Shearer one time of Harrowdale , Stronsay. She was 93 at the time of this picture and lived to 99. She married James Croy and her daughter, also Margaret, married Thomas Peace my mothers uncle. The picture was thought to have been taken at Valdigar in Holm, home of her daughter.
Hope this is of interest to someone in Stronsay.

More thought provocation. I just discovered today that my paternal grandfather's maternal grandfather, James Shearer, came from Stronsay!

James Croy was a brother of my gt gt grandfather. I would be interested in more info about this branch of the family.

My great grandfather was William Croy. He built the new end on Harradale when he got married in 1863. He was the son of James Croy and Jane Croy. James Croy was a weaver

In Loving Memory of Margaret Shearer who died at Valdigar, Holm 18th. Aug 1938 aged 99 years. Also her husband James Croy who died in Stronsay Feb 1897 aged 75 years.

My great-great grandfather was James Croy, and Margaret, pictured above was his second wife. Are there any photos of James Croy or any of his son James Moodie Croy (b:27.02.1862) or of the croft Harrowdale? I would be most interested to view any. Really thrilled to have seen this photo, thank you.
