I do not really know the date this was taken.
On the left is Clara Maxwell with her sister Alice.
This could possibly have been taken behind the shop in Bridge Street.

Comments:
I think it is safe to say that the location of this picture is exactly correct. The building behind the dyke, and across Bridge Street Lane, with the windows, was in my early years, The Salvation Army Hall.
The building to the left, was where I lived with my parents for the first twelve years of my life.
This building was demolished to make way for a car park, and an office block now occupies the garden where the ladies were standing.
Although this was taken long before my time, I well remember both ladies. One of them wore her reading glasses, which always hung from a chain around her neck, when not in use.(see Clara on the left above)

Thank you for confirmation, Peter. I think you would have remembered Alice along with another sister, Edith. (Clara left Orkney as a young woman, although she visited Orkney regularly throughout her life.) Edith and Alice assisted Albert in the shop. Alice, later in life certainly did wear her glasses on a chain. I have a picture somewhere!
