Not a life jacket on any of them, how times have changed, that three women are no even givan them a glance, a lot o help they would be if they gead buddum up!!

there is a photo in the Girnel of Dan Grieve in First Attempt at a Stromness regatta with Screwy Rendall wearing an inner tube for a lifejacket.

There are some watchful men at the stern, however. I think I may be able to name the guys in the boats, when I have time to enlarge the photo. I think I would have been there as the only female crew at that time. My father, Douglas Robertson, and I both wore lifejackets - our combined weight would have been about 16 stone - but we managed to avoid swimming when we sailed together! Some crews had their boats on the deck of the Hoy Head; a bit warmer.

Perhaps Alfie Flett in the front of the boat on the left and Sinclair Muir in the boat behind the Hoy Head.
