A Tom Kent picture, date unknown. This is taken from outside the present day Croy's drapers looking back towards Broad Street. On the extreme right is Croy's ladies shop (still there but empty) and next to it is a building which stood where the car park at the Orkney Hotel entrance is now. Between this building and the current Orkney Hotel would have been the close headed by the arch shown in picture #1287 and picture #1291 (which shows the car park mentioned). The lamp above the close says 'Royal Hotel'
