'[Here are] a few pics from the "Hrossey open day" at Kirkwall Pier.
I remember the place being mobbed - it was the 29th Sept 2002. We had to queue for quite a while to get on! Everything was so new and shining.
I think the most poignant memory of that day - was that it was the last time the St. Suniva sailed from Orkney. You had both ships on the pier - kind of "old with the new"
One thing that really sticks in my mind was when the Suniva was sailing off - she was "piped off" by the gentleman in one of the pics i have sent. I wasn't really emotionally attached to P&O in anyway - but i DO remember a HUGE lump in my throat - as she sailed past the Hrossey - each of them exchanging blasts of their horns - as they passed each other...... It was actually quite an emotional moment, and i do remember lots of people standing there, wiping tears from their eyes - watching her sail off for the last time from Orkney!'

I was there too and felt the exact same way. The thing that sticks in my mind the most was watching the gap between her and the pier getting wider and knowing that would be the last time I ever saw her. At least she was given a fitting send off by the piper and the Hrossay.
