Last day of the St Sunniva 1/4

Fraser writes:
'[Here are] a few pics from the "Hrossey open day" at Kirkwall Pier.
I remember the place being mobbed - it was the 29th Sept 2002. We had to queue for quite a while to get on! Everything was so new and shining.
I think the most poignant memory of that day - was that it was the last time the St. Suniva sailed from Orkney. You had both ships on the pier - kind of "old with the new"
One thing that really sticks in my mind was when the Suniva was sailing off - she was "piped off" by the gentleman in one of the pics i have sent. I wasn't really emotionally attached to P&O in anyway - but i DO remember a HUGE lump in my throat - as she sailed past the Hrossey - each of them exchanging blasts of their horns - as they passed each other...... It was actually quite an emotional moment, and i do remember lots of people standing there, wiping tears from their eyes - watching her sail off for the last time from Orkney!'

I worked that day onboard that ro-ro. I was only summer staff and not even scot. but will not forget that boat. I´ve seen a rough Boatswain dropping whisky drops or tears (not sure yet) from his face.
