Further to the comments about the "St Magnus Cross" in picture #11548 and elsewhere, look at the halo on the Lamb. This window was installed in 1987 which was several years before that flag was promoted in Orkney, and the designer's description of the window (printed in "St Magnus Cathedral; 850 years - a celebration", published by the Orkney View in 1987) makes no reference to it. So is it just a pictorial reference to The Cross which happens to be in the colours of the flag? Or did the designer of the window (Crear McCartney) know about the flag, one of whose designers was Allan Macartney (note different spelling)? If the latter, it is of course in the symmetrical form as found in the flag of Ulster (so you see the Lord Lyon's problem).
